Radiographic Report
Radiographic interpretation: The cardiac silhouette is subjectively normal with a VHS of 10.0 and a VLAS of 2.2. On the lateral view the heart appears to be slightly widened, but this observation is likely normal for breed.
Radiographic diagnosis: These are normal thoracic radiographs for this breed.
Clinical interpretation / additional case information: Given these films and the breed of the patient, cardiomegaly or congestive heart failure is an unlikely explanation for the cough and taking the history into account, primary airway disease is much more likely. The merits of stopping current cardiac therapies should be discussed with the owner. Additional testing (airway scope and airway wash) can be discussed in order to obtain a definitive diagnosis to guide specific therapy, but empiric therapy with cough suppressants, antibiotics, +/- bronchodilators +/-steroids is a reasonable alternative.
